    Key Responsibilities for the Cost Accountant
    • Lead all aspects of standard costing, including materials, labor, and overhead rates
    • Serve as the primary Cost Accountant responsible for product cost accuracy and inventory valuation
    • Maintain and improve costing structures within ERP systems such as SAP, Epicor, or similar platforms
    • Review and validate BOMs, routings, labor standards, and manufacturing workflows
    • Analyze and report on:
      • Material usage variances
      • Purchase Price Variances (PPV)
      • Labor efficiency and rate variances
      • Overhead absorption variances
      • Scrap and rework costs
      • Work order closure variances
    • Partner with Operations, Engineering, and Supply Chain teams to identify root causes and implement cost improvements
    • Ensure accurate accounting of raw materials, WIP, and finished goods inventory
    • Support inventory reconciliations, cycle counts, physical inventory, and year-end audits
    • Prepare cost-related journal entries and support month-end close activities
    • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and manufacturing cost-driver modeling
    • Develop and mentor a junior Cost Analyst
    Qualifications for the Cost Accountant
    • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
    • 5-7+ years of experience as a Cost Accountant or within manufacturing finance
    • Experience within aerospace, defense, automotive, industrial manufacturing, or other complex manufacturing environments preferred
    • Strong understanding of:
      • Standard costing
      • Inventory accounting
      • Manufacturing variances
      • BOMs and routings
      • Work order accounting
    • Knowledge of GAAP and manufacturing financial controls
    • Advanced Excel skills including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, and data analysis
    • Experience with ERP systems such as SAP, Epicor Kinetic, or similar
    • Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement experience preferred
    • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain financial concepts to operational stakeholders
