Job Description Summary: The Lead Lab Processing Assistant is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations in the reference lab. The Lead Lab Processing Assistant is to provide guidance and support to staff.Job Description: Perform duties as Lab Processing Assistant. Assist coordinator with day-to-day operations in the Reference Lab. Be able to support staff, train new employees, continuous training support with current staff. Placing safety events and quality and safety data as needed. Assisting Supervisor/Coordinator with record of conversations and coaching with staff as needed. Investigating errors, workflow issues a helping to assist with changes as needed. Ordering supplies and monitoring inventory as needed. Putting in maintenance tickets as needed.Essential Functions: Ensure timely and accurate registration of patient orders by transcribing and processing demographic, financial and clinical information. Looking for unreleased and releasing orders as needed. Correctly identifying and registering patients based on the information provided by the client.Accurately enters necessary patient information for Laboratory Patients. Accurate and timely scanning of available documents into the EMR for proper hospital record keeping. Accurately enters orders for testing to be done. Accurately releases orders for Epic Ambulatory clients. Prioritizes, anticipates, and provides timely and accurate registrations in order to ensure efficient and effective workflow.Adjusts sequence of registration based on departmental need. Identifies potential problems and imitates corrective action. Puts in and follows up on LIS/IT tickets as necessary to resolve issues. When following up with a client, patient, family, co-worker, care giver, provider or leaders always using appropriate customer service and behavior standards.Specimens are processed within a minimal time frame to ensure specimens are processed in a timely manner once received into the laboratory. Ability to use provided tools to review specimens tracking information, client information, and testing requirements. Develops and maintains job knowledge to perform job duties. Attends required training updates on computer systems and other updates. Communicate with fellow lab staff as needed when communication is needed. Seeks and willingly accepts assignments and broadening of job scope. Completes other tasks as assigned. Effectively utilized resources and opportunities, seeking clarification when necessary. Willingness and ability to train and support peers and new employees; Practices service always behaviors with other staff members.Is receptive and supportive of change. Learns rapidly and adapts quickly to change. Notifies customers of delays in transport. Properly stores specimens according to protocol.
Qualifications
Education: Lab Science Experience In Lieu of Education or College Diploma: Chemistry, Biology or Related Field
Work Experience:
3-5yrs of experience in a clinical lab as a lab assistant, processing assistant or phlebotomist that also processes samples
and
1-3yrs of experience in a leadership role.

Compensation and Benefits
The compensation range for this position is $20.59per hour - $34.39per hour. This represents a good faith minimum and maximum range for the role at the time of posting by Carle Health. The actual compensation offered a candidate will be dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's experience, qualifications, location, training, licenses, shifts worked and compensation model. Responsibilities
Oversees the daily operations of the procurement/processing area and acts as a resource to the employees in that section
- Oversees daily activities and redistributes duties
- Handles incoming phone calls to areas and responds appropriately
- Demonstrates leadership ability by offering assistance, leadership, and functional guidance to staff.
- Able to perform the duties of the personnel within the procurement/processing area and function in a staff position when there are unexpected staff shortages or high workload.
- Follows lab test catalog and testing requirement guidelines set by testing lab
- Oversees and maintains inventory.
- Monitors pending collections, specimen tracking and follow-up with samples was needed in a timely manner
- Provides instruction through skill training as well as functions as a technical resource for section
- Works closely with staff to ensure policies and procedures are followed and communicates instances of non-compliance to the management staff.
- Keeps abreast of procedural changes and communicates those changes to staff; updates procedure manuals as needed.
- Sets the example for expectations and acts as a mentor to staff.
- Works with laboratory management to ensure cost-effective operation of the department by identifying and implement cost saving measures.
- Demonstrates problem-solving skills.
- Provides effective training to staff to facilitate problem-solving skills.
- Thoroughly investigates and documents all incidents and follows up with staff involved
- Interacts with Coordinator and/or manager regarding incidents
- Handles incoming phone calls
- Functions as a liaison between procurement/processing staff, nursing units, technical staff, and laboratory management.
- Communicates changes impacting the department.
- Communicates with patients and clients as follow up to problem solving.
- Responsible for development of training materials for section, subject to approval by coordinator and manager.
- Assures that all staff is adhering to policy /procedure
- Responsible for oversight of new employee's progress through competency checklist.
- Responsible to inform coordinator and manager of problems/concerns encountered during orientation period
- Functions as key contact person for new staff members
- Demonstrates familiarity with reference materials
- Capable of performing duties while handling conflicting demands and personalities
- Provides training and consultation to internal and external customers.
- Coordinates efforts with out-patient and in-patient areas, shares ideas to improve service.
- Assists with special reports as requested.
- Maintains knowledge of compliance to be able to adhere to regulations.
- Attends meetings and educational sessions as needed.
